March 14, 2011

Hey fam.,well turns out we didnt have changes.. we found out last night but i kind of figured anyway cause we opened the area that we would be together another change.. its ok though we have some investigators that are progressing and so maybe we could have a baptism this change.. but ill talk about that later cause im gonna go down my list.. so one of my comps in canalitos that moved to the states is now serving in the ogden north mission i think and is in Logan ut serving on the campus of usu.. i thought that was pretty cool cause paul is a counselor there and might know him.. also i bought new shoes last monday..
they are hush puppies and super nice.. they cost me about 70 bucks but they are legit and a brand from the states.. its nice to have shoes with out holes in the soles or shoes that have traction! this week one of the elders got sick in carcha.. cause there are four of us so we went by to see if he or his comp needed anything.. we ended up helping them out and buying some food for them cause they couldnt leave the house.. i thought i am gonna be a good husband and father.. haha cause i like taking care of people and helping them.. and now i can even cook some stuff so i am learning a lot about cooking and cleaning and taking care of sick people..
anyway also i heard that they are gonna put a new rule on us where we have to use internet in the chapels.. thats ridiculous.. there are 3 computers in coban and 22 missionaries.. thats 7 hours of internet usage.. they say they are trying to save money but its less then a dollar to use internet for an hour in an internet cafe.. and if they are just doing it to monitor us so we dont use other websites thats retarded.. the machines supposedly are super slow and we wouldnt be able to send pics... im sorry but thats gay.. dont put more rules on us then we already have in the missionary guidebook!! more rules only hurt us.. the obedient elders.. the dumb ones will break the rules and go use internet in other places.. anyway i will stop complaining but that goes with the whole bball thing too.. dont hurt everyone for the decisions of a few stupid elders.. cause they arent gonna change and be obedient with more rules.. they will just rebel more.. if i ever get up to zone leader i will definately voice my opinion on that subject cause its RETARDED!!!
anyway on to brighter subjects.. me and my comp were talking and we did some good things last change.. mainly with antonio and rafael.. antonio never had been to church until we got there and now has been twice and he listens to us now.. he could be baptized this change but the thing is we cant pressure him cause he will back off fast if we do that.. and rafael has been to 2 church activities.. other missionaries had told us that him and antonio were really good investigators but wouldnt attend anything or go to church.. but we have made good leaps with each of them and this change we will see what we can do.. the members though are so important.. we can teach people bring them to church and baptize them but if the members dont help us in every aspect of the work our lessons wont be as good.. they wont be baptized or feel comfortable and wont stay active.. members are so important and its hard cause there arent many good members who help us out.. but yall help the missionaries where yall live!! they need help.. especially in the states.. give them references and go on visits with them!! it can change the investigators lives and strengthen yalls personal testimonies.. last week wasnt the best but eugenio is still going to institute and liking it a lot and we are making progress with him.. i dont have much time left but we put a baptismal date with a guy who told us he had a dream and that he should keep letting us visit him and that he should go along with the things we say.. we put the goal with him but i doubt itll go through cause he likes to drink a lot.. but somehting cool about latinos is that a lot times they get answers to there prayes through dreams.. its something we dont hear often in the states but sandy too the baptism i had in canalitos got her answer in a dream.. well i have 13 months now and the time is flying.. thanks for all the support yall give me and prayers.. keeping praying and asking God to strengthen yalls testimonies.. we all need to improve and through small and simple things we will grow and become who God wants us to be.. also General Conference is coming up and that will be a great opportunity to listen to the prophet and other leaders and make changes in our lives and grow in our testimonies that they are really called of God to lead us in theses Latter days!!love yall and take care!

Hey yall!well here goes my letter again for this week.. haha i have my list ready and have quite a few pics i want to send but we will see how much i can get it in 22 min!! but right now i am doing good and working hard in carcha.. we are in the last week of this change so maybe next monday when i write i will know if there will be a change in our companionship or if ill be sent to another area.. my guess is though that we will be together one more change but we will see.. anyway last week we gave a lot of service.. we helped put up a chicken coop thing one morning and that was fun kind of.. haha then we chopped wood with an axe for a less active lady.. that was pretty fun cause i have really neved used an axe..

then on sat we went and gave service with one of our investigators.. we chapeared or haha did the service of chopping down grass and small brush plants with mashettis.. we did it for four hours though and i though i was gonna die.. i only had one blister come and explode but it was tiring but good cause i think it gave him more confidence in us and also the confidence of his parents.. his name is eugenio and here is also a pic of us after we finished..
also there is a pic of me and my painting that i bought a long time ago of tekal and the temple..
then a pic of my collection of stickers.. haha and my baggy..
but yeah when your a missonary you do dorky stuff to make things interesting so yeah i collect stickers.. haha but i am not weird like a lot of missionaries.. today we had a zone activity and went to chilasco the biggest waterfall in central america and just listening to the other elders and random stuff they talked about i think i am still pretty normal.. haha also eugenio went twice with us last week to institute.. it was really fun and he liked it a lot.. also the teacher is really good and she focused in on him and explained some things in detail so hed understand.. we studied d and c and i was worried and though he thought that class was boring but he liked it and hasnt had to many questions yet and is exciting to go everyweek.. also the spirit has been there and i know thats helped him understand things better too.. also i learned alot about john the beloved who is still alive and the work that he and the 3 nephites are doing.. its pretty interesting stuff.. also after service with eugenio we carried down wood for him and his famliy but we walked out of the mountains and for about 25 min.. what looks like a light piece of wood gets heavy after that long!!
also something we talked about in institute and ive though a lot about recently is many are called but few are chosen.. we are all called and chosen but its up to us whether we are really chosen.. everyday in our lives through the decisions we make we are either coming closer to Christ or going farther away..we need to make an effort even in the small thing to do what He wants and not what we do.. its up to us whether we will recieve eternal life.. lets do our part as a family and indivuals so that we can be exalted one day and live together forever with our Heavenly Father and our Savious Jesus Christ!! also as a companionship we are doing a lot better.. we are meshing really good in lessons now and speaking about the same.. and asking more questions too to better involve the investigators.. the spirit has been a lot stronger and the lessons are reaching the investigators!! its fun teaching like that and with the spirit and definately its helping our the investigators to know what we teach is true and that we really are representatives of Jesus Christ and His church.. umm last night too we watched the joseph smith movie with a fam and there son we is the only non member.. he liked it and the spirit was strong as we shared our testimonies and little by little he is becoming more involved.. he and two other investigators came to church yesterday.. anyway i am doing good and need to close and send one more email to yall with just pics of the waterfall.. love yall and take care and thanks for the support emails and all that yall do for me.. also thanks for the prayers they really do help!!love elder t hatch

Hey family!!How are yall doing? well have my list done as usual so i will go down the list and tell yall whats been going on.. also the pics are of us making pupusas a el salvador dish that have cheese and beans in the middle they are pretty good.. then a pic of a bathroom of a fam in our ward.. as you can tell theres not much privacy and there toilet paper is newspaper.. haha i am just sending yall that to people thankful about our bathrooms in the states.. then a pic of me and the family.. we gave service the other day and cut down grass-brush with mashettis.. it was fun and they are a really cool fam.. the wife almost only speaks kekchi.. she calls us hermanas instead of hermanos but they are sealed in the temple come to church every sunday and to all of the activites and they have a cute little kid then one on the way.. they are pretty legit.. another one is me and some kids of one of the families we are teaching.. the little girl is wearing the typical dress here which is made of corte.. and the blouse thing too.. all the ladies in carcha dress like that.. its rare to see a lady not like that.. it be tight to buy some corte though and do ties for all the guys in the family and skirts for the girls but itd be expensive!
then two from the caves where we went today..
ok so if somebody could get conners address for me so i could write him thatd be cool or give him my email.. then if somebody could tell jose to write me that be cool too.. also last week i sent shaylee a letter and jacqui too so let me know when yall get those please! and yeah we had training with pres. torres last week and he told us about our new mission president.. pres and sis watts from north logan utah.. haha thats pretty cool and i wonder if any of yall know them.. hopefully they are pretty good they have fulfilled every calling imaginable in the churuch like yall can imagine and hopefully they let me play basketball!! haha anyway the training thing though was good last tuesday and we learned a lot about how to better start off lessons better unity in companionship and how we need to focus more on the book of mormon.. it was good like all the meetings we have here but now its just a question of putting it into practice which is sometimes the hardest part.. also the other night a family gave us food.. sardines onions lemon and chile.. it might have been of the worst combinations ive had yet. but... i didnt gag and ate all of it besides part of an onion.. i did not enjoy it though and yeah it wasnt a pleasant experience.. also i finished reading our search for happiness last week for the second time by elder ballard.. that book is really good and i just wish all the non members in the world could read it.. cause its funny and would clear up so much of the crap people say about us and all the things they make up about us to bring us down.. it made me realized though that through the trials and struggles we will always have, there is no reason to not be happy.. we are so blessed to have this gospel in our lives and the knowledge we have about Jesus Christ and all the things He did for us! umm also i talked with the elders back in canalitos and carmen was baptized yesterday.. the baptismal date i left there.. elder allen baptized here and i talked to luis and her the other day and they are doing good.. and yeah last week was good.. the numbers werent quite so good but thats not really what matters.. rafael an investigator and his wife an inactive came to the night of fellowshipping.. haha noche de hermanamiento.. and that was good and they liked it.. sergio came to church yesterday and little by little things are getting better with all of the investigators.. tonight we are gonna try and put some baptismal dates with rafael and eugenio but we will see how that goes.. we are doing good though and as a a companionship too we are doing better. and mom i havent got the package yet but i will call the office to see if its there.. cause they dont send those to us if we are outside of the capital... but yeah then today we went to some cool caves in tanchi an area in our district.. but yep thats about it.. i hope all of yall are doing good.. i love yall a lot and stay strong and always go to church.. this is the only place to be to be TRUELY HAPPY.. i love yall and keep being good examples for those around yall too cause people are always watching us.. thanks for all the emails yall send me and packages and letters.. the support helps a lot.. well have a good week.. take care!! and dad thanks for putting the money in for new shoes!!

love yall

Hey yall,Well this week i have a lot of time to write yall so here goes the list i made to write yall about... so last week i sent a pic of my crotch to yall showing off my stitching skills.. haha but looking at my clothes this week i realized everything is falling apart.. almost all my socks have wholes in the toes and some are pink now cause they got bleached.. i have had to stitch two pairs of pants and all of the 4 pairs i wear a lot arent the same color as they were when i started. they are all pretty faded.. then my shirts are getting yellow and i ripped one and threw it away and then another one also has a hole in it.. and my shoes are terrible now..
i wear my boots though most of the time now but i gotta to buy new shoes! there are some nice hush puppy ones that i could buy but they cost 60 dollars.. also i sewed my sweater the other day too cause it got a hole in it even though i never wear it!! ok so theres another chicken killing pic too.. then there are some other ones that i am sending of just places we found in our area that were cool looking.. dad if you figure out my preisthood line back to joseph smith that be pretty cool too see.. so the other night a lady invited us to eat with them and so 6 of us were over there.. we shared a message with them about the temple and families. it was legit and the spirit was super strong.. they are inactives and a daughter/sister of them died about months.. after the lesson.. the sister of the lady who died started balling and tellling us that she felt the spirit strong during the lesson and how she knew everything that we said was true.. it was really cool.. then the next night we had another cool lesson with one of our investigators that is 22 years old.. he told us that his parents and him were all baptized in different churches.. then we explained to him the gospel of Jesus Christ.. which is the faith repentance baptism holy ghost and enduringt to the end.. he understood every part perfectly and asked us if he needed to be baptized again and we told him yes and explained why.. the spirit was really strong and he knows what he needs to do.. we had him pray to see if he should be baptized next month but the only problem is he is working every sunday in the morning.. but we will see what happens.. he has even told us how he even wishes he could be a missionary like us some day. anyway he is legit but we will see tonight if he got his answer.. and i also told him that we need to always put the things of God first and everything else follows he understands that just his economic situation is not good but ill let yall know how that goes and pray for him please.. then last week we walked a ton!! it was ridiculous..
my legs are so tired and it doesnt help that our area is giant and its not flat!! but i am kind of getting used to it.. we also did divisions last week and that was really good. our DL has 22 months and helped me realize some things i could do better to be a better and more efficient missionary... also happy birthday to all yall who have birthdays this month and had birthdays last month and december... sorry i dont keep up with the days very well.. also yesterday in church i had to give a talk cause the speakers didnt show up.. i was nervous about it but it was just about faith so i just shared a couple scriptures and a talked about faith.. it wasnt very hard and it was even in spanish.. i am not gonna be so nervous speaking in front of people when i get back itll just be hard doing it in english for a bit.. umm like i said we worked super hard last week and it was good we had 23 lessons and 13 new investigators and 121 contacts or we knocked a ton of doors. it was a good week thoug and its crazy that we are alread half way through this change!.. me and my comp are doing good he just still likes to be controlling of the lessons but me vale! haha anyway its not too bad though and sometimes i just have to beat him to talking and alot of the people talk to him if they need something instead of me cause he talks a lot more then me.. but thats kind of hard cause in my first two areas everybody loved me and here they talk to him cause he doesnt really let me talk much.. but i hope i am not with him next change but we will see.. anyway also yesterday antonio came to chruch.. he had a baptismal date put when i got here but didnt ever want to come to church. . wed talk to him though but on sat they had an activity for the youth and he went to it.. then in church yesterday he showed up with his family and they are all members.. we were super surprised and he stayed for all three hours.. it was pretty cool and he has friends so we are gonna see if we can teach him a little more frequently and involve the young me.. anyway that was my week...my thought this week would be just remember always to do things that will help your faith grow.. like the talk i gave yesterday we can see miracles in our lives if we have faith and it is the will of God.. we need to read the scriptures though everyday, pray, go to church, and have our FHEs so that we can have more faith and have stronger testimonies that Jesus Christ lives and that this is his church today!! i love yall a ton and take care ill try and send more pics if i have time!! thanks for everything!

Dear Family! So the conference we had last week went really well.. it was with elder martino a member of the area presidency here in central america.. he lived in denton for quite a while and had a kid go to a and m.. he talked to us a lot about entering the door of baptism.. and helping people to be able to perservere to the end.. he talked about how we could get more people to the waters of baptism.. and then the things a recent convert should do to make sure that they dont go inactive.. then he talked about how weve had quite a few baptism recently but a lot of the men havent gotten the priesthood and so thats something that we need to work on as a whole when somebody gets baptized.. we need to fellowship them and once the elders leave the member have to step up to the plate and help support the recient converts.. so the work in carcha right now is geting a little better.. we had a 13 year old boy come to church with us on sunday.. he only stayed for the first hour but it was good to get somebody to church..
we also had a family of three that was gonna come but they couldnt at the last moment.. they have been recieving missionaries for quite a while but with us the are more positive and really wanting to come to church now and see what its like.. also there is a 15 year old boy and all of his family are members but he isnt.. he is listening to us but doesnt want to come to church and is kind of a bum.. he would be perfect to get baptized and be a good member but he just doesnt want to right now.. we will work with him though and see what we can do.. in our area the members like to give us food a lot.. they always give us soup though with really tough meat in it that i cant chew.. i dont like it very much and then they put dang chile in it.. so its hot and and nasty.. i also last night ate a chile that was made with nasty crunch onions.. i just want yall to know though that i got it down and without that much trouble.. its just nasty though and dont think that i enjoy it one bit.. but i do get it down without even gaggin..
haha umm for one year we bought to chickens and killed them cleaned them and ate them!!! i didnt kill one cause i dont have that in me.. i have some pretty cool pics though but this computer is being a retard and wont let me do pics.. i will work with it though.. and speaking of all the nasty soups and meats people have given me i still havent gotten sick yet!!
also recently here it has been raining a lot or some misy thing they call chipipi.. thats what coban is famous for.. so its been cold and rainy a lot.. i dont like it too much cause i have to wear my boots a ton and they weigh a lot and hurt my feet..
and i am gonna need to buy some new shoes mom cause my cole haans have holes in them and my rockports let water in between the leather and sole and they have absolutely no grip now.. i can buy some cheap ones probably but will need about 50 dollars though and i dont know how much i have on my card right now.. umm and this last year of my missoin i have put a lot of goals on what i want to read and study.. i have decided to read every magazine of the church that comes out.. cause we know that through the scriptures we have the words of the prophets of old but only in the liahona or ensign can we find new revelations and guidance especially for today.. i would encourage yall too to read parts of them cause that will help us to obtain a better testimony about having a prophet today and other leaders who are guided by God to guide us and give us warnings and guidance today.. read dc68 3-5 and ughh i wanted to write more about this but i am out of time.. here are some pics cause the guy fixed my card and took off the virus.. i stitched up a whole in my crotch..
haha and hope yall like the other pics.. gotta go love yall and thanks for the emails and support!!Elder Tyler Hatch

February 7, 2011

Hey family! So i ended up having a change.. i didnt want one like i said but as yall know we really dont have a say in them.. so on tuesday all i did was run around a say good bye to all my people in canalitos.. it was a crazy day cause i ran around to about 20 people or families and dropped off a photo with everybody and with a note to them on the back.. it was crappy and i had 4 cryers this time.. that made me feel good but i cried to.. with luis the baptism i had there.. his 14 year old sister started crying who is gonna get baptized this month then i said bye and stood up.. then the mom starting crying then i did then luis started balling and elder allen cried a little bit too.. it was sooo crappy.. i love that family so much and then i have luis a hug and he was like i love you elder hatch.. then i turned around and almost got a hug from his sister.. but then i was like woahh.. i can only shake your hand then said bye to the mom too.. so in all it was sad and i have to go see them again before i go home.. i have everyones info though in a book so i can stay in touch with them after the mission and a lot of them wrote me little notes in my notebook.. also another lady who we ate with a lot.. started crying cause we visited her a lot and tried to help her daughter get baptized and she wrote in my notebook (baggy) that her goal this year is to have her 15 yr old daughter baptized and her boy thatll turn 8.. so that was my good byes..

and leaving elder allen was crappy too.. we had so much fun working together and being comps..so these last couple of days have been crappy cause i miss my old comp and people in my area.. but i will have to move on and get focused on Carcha now.. me and my comp are starting from scratch cause both of the old elders there were taking out.. its hard cause we dont know our way around or many of the investigators or members.. but we have found quite of few news recently so thats helping us out and we know some members.. but yeah there are some pics of me and elder lusty my mtc and ccm comp me and allen and then me in my new area working with mashettis with the carcha mountain in the background and yeah elder lemus is my new comp.. he is from el salvador and has 6 months in the mission.. he is cool but at first he thought he was gonna do everything by himself and that he knew everything but he has gotten better this last few days and ive showed him that we are gonna need to work together.. itll be good though just these first couple weeks will be hard finding investigators and adjusting to being out of the cap.. yall should look up where i am at though its san pedro carcha.. and its super pretty..

also almost all the people there speak kekchi.. or one of those mayan languages.. its crazy cause most of them speak it in the streets and know it but also know spanish.. a lot of them dont know spanish too well though and dont understand it very well.. so i am gonna need to start learing a little bit of it though incase we find people who dont speak spanish.. itll be fun though but i really dont want to learn all of it or get sent to polochic or senahu where thats all they speak. but we will see.. i am doing good though just trying to adjust.. it feels like i had to leave part of my family again in canalitos.. but things will get better and yeah tomorrow we have a big conference so itll be cool to see a lot of my missionary buddies and yeah. the people though are a lot more humble here though and weve gotten into a lot more houses.. we had 8 news in 4 days so thats good and we will see what we can do.. but the Spirit will be really important cause we dont know what we are doing still but yeah thats about it..

also we cut with mashettis a ton of stuff the other day and not just plants but actual tree stuff.. i got 3 blisters but it was fun.. also its really cold and rainy where im at.. its ridiculous.. i have a sheet and two big blankets.. its cold.. also i hit a year this week!! woohooo haha its gone by fast but a whole year is still a lot of time left.. anyway hope everyone is good and amandas getting married... haha thats funny but if theres any cute girls yall know they can write me cause its always good to get letters especially from girls.. haha well i love yall a ton and take care.. hope yall like the pics and keep pushing forward no matter what trials or obstacles get put in yalls way.. with Christ on our side all things are possible!!Love yallElder Hatch
